College Profile

A glimpse into the History of the college…

Dewan Bahadur Padmarao Mudaliar College for women was established in the year 1982 by keyes Education Society. In the year 1981, when keyes High School for girls completed 100 year, it was thought fitting to establish a Degree College for Women to mark the years of achievement.
The journey started with a dream of educating girl child. It is pertinent here to know the history of one of the oldest Educational Institutions in Secunderabad. In 1881, Shri Venu Gopal Pillai started Girls Patashala as a Primary School conducting classes in five, six different private homes in Secunderabad. His main objective was to “equip girls of our society with knowledge to fight against any kind of atrocity which might come their way”. He used to go door – to – door to pick up students in a bullock cart and bring them to school.
Dewan Bahadur Padmarao Mudaliar strived to acquire land to build a permanent structure. Brigadier – General Sir Terence Humphrey Keyes, the then BritishResident Officer to the Nizam State helped to acquire land. The school has been named Keyes Dewan Bahadur Padmarao Mudaliar served as the first Secretary of Keyes High School for Girls, and Ms. H.M Davis was the first Head Mistress. The School proliferated into an eminent institution over the years and marched towards its centenary year.  To commemorate the centenary celebrations of Keyes High School and to follow the vision of Shri.Padmarao Mudaliar to expand the institution from KG TO PG, foundation was laid for the Degree College. Mrs. Bhagyalaxmi Natarajan was the Founding – Member, who set up this Degree College, named after Dewan Bahadur Padmarao Mudaliar, to pay tribute to the chief architect and visionary of Keyes Education Society. Mrs. Bhagyalaxmi Natarajan’s prime concern was to provide Higher Education to women. Smt. Samyuktha Bullayiah served as the first President, Mrs. Bhagyalaxmi Natarajan was the first Hon. Secretary. The first Principal was Dr. Puranik, a retired Principal of Nizam College of Osmania University. The college was inaugurated by T. Anjaiah, the then Chief-Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 1981. Degree classes commenced in 1982 with 35 students in
Arts Faculty and 71 in Commerce Faculty. B.Sc. courses started in 1984.
The College is successfully continuing on its journey of excellence in academics and extra-curricular activities. With strong support and encouragement from management, and dedicated faculty support, the students enter the college with  dreams and aspirations. They go on a journey of acquiring knowledge, face challenges and come out with flying colours to confidently face the world outside. DEWAN BAHADUR PADMARAO MUDALIAR COLLEGE FOR WOMEN is a  legacy aiming at academic excellence.
In the year 2014, Dewan Bahadur Padmarao Mudaliar Post Graduate College for  Women was established. It is a testimony of a commitment towards women education. It was the moment of dream come true of imparting women education from KG to PG. The driving force in this endeavor is our President, Mrs. Revathi Thangavelu whose dream project is to star PG course in English. Soon to be followed by M.Com course introduced in the year 2016.

Dewan Bhadur Padma Rao Mudaliar Degree and PG College for Women has started its journey in 1982. The emblem depicts vision and mission of the institution.
The emblem is the combination of four symbols and three words. The four symbols, designed in four panels each, represent the vision of the institution, whereas the words carry out its mission. The three words are DEVOTION,
DISCIPLINE and DILIGENCE, implying to remain devoted in imparting discipline and values, and to practice, diligence in every step. The four symbols that define the vision are – SUN AND LOTUS; BOOKS; A BANYAN TREE; A SCRIPTURE. Lotus is associated with beauty, purity, spirituality and eternity; SUN is the archetypal epitome of power and vigor. From time immemorial TREE symbolizes fertility and knowledge. The huge banyan tree is an attribute of the legendary Bodhi Tree, which not only inculcates knowledge, but also propagates a sound human character. BOOKS and SCRIPTURE are an integral part of academics and this institution is not any exception. The scripture inscribed on the emblem says that, Knowledge Grows To Wisdom—the universal truth pertaining
to every civilization in every age.
